Hi all.

The drought, heat and wind aren't letting up for many of us. Here in dusty northcentral Montana - where we have had only 23% of our average 11" of precip so far this year, and I've lost count of how many days we've had over 100 degrees -- even the grasshoppers are starting to starve out and move on. In times like these it can be a challenge to make the necessary decisions well and calmly. To help keep my chin up I like stories of others facing up effectively to similar circumstances. And here's a good one that incorporates information from across the West: As the West Faces a Drought Emergency, Some Ranchers are Restoring Grasslands to Build Water Reserves | Civil Eats<https://civileats.com/2021/05/17/as-the-west-faces-a-drought-emergency-some-ranchers-are-restoring-grasslands-to-build-water-reserves/>

Whatever agricultural challenges you face, always know that you are not alone. We are here for you. We know that the way through this is to go together, learning from one another, helping when asked, and asking when we need help. Our Soil for Water network is small but growing steadily, chock full of ranchers facing similar issues. We each have unique experiences, ideas, questions and concerns, and by sharing yours with the network together we can build a community of wisdom and support so essential to the wellbeing of ourselves, our communities, our livestock and the land. Please feel free to post a message here or contact us at soilforwater at ncat.org.

Wishing you all rain, hope, and better days ahead,

Linda
