Registration is now open for the Montana Farm to School Summit: Digging Deeper, held on August 11-12, 2021 in Helena, Montana. Early bird registration and discount ends May 31!

Learn and share how schools and programs are practicing farm to school initiatives across Montana. Dig deeper into the core elements of farm to school, which includes serving local foods, school gardens, nutrition, agriculture, and food education. Workshops, experiential learning, and networking opportunities will provide inspiration, ideas, and resources for all people interested in farm to school. Listen to presenters from across the country, including Indigikitchen founder Mariah Gladstone, who will give a keynote speech on connecting Native sovereignty to farm to school.

All individuals interested in farm to school programs are encouraged to attend, including school and summer food services personnel, afterschool program coordinators, teachers, school administrators, preschool and childcare providers, parents, students, food producers and vendors, farm to school practitioners, and groups that support farm to school efforts. Scholarships will be available and will open soon.

Farm to school works to improve child nutrition by helping children understand and experience where their food comes from. It begins with incorporating healthy farm-fresh food in school meals and snacks and extends to strengthening community-wide support for local farmers and children’s well-being. Additionally, the program provides increased opportunity for garden-based learning and agriculture education across curriculums. By educating children and stakeholders about nutrition and Montana agriculture, farm to school fosters healthy futures.

This conference is hosted by Montana Team Nutrition Program, Office of Public Institution, Montana No Kid Hungry, FoodCorps Montana, Garden City Harvest, National Center for Appropriate Technology, Mission West Community Development Partners, Montana Department of Agriculture, Montana Farmers Union, USDA Food & Nutrition Service, Montana Food Bank Network, Eat Right Montana/Action for Healthy Kids, AERO, Helena Community Gardens, Gallatin Valley Farm to School, Montana Department of Agriculture, and Helena Food Share.
