What will you learn?
Participate to learn about the barriers to adoption of winter cover crops in California’s specialty crop system. This training will take an in-depth look at one sustainable agriculture practice: winter cover cropping. It will explore the feasibility of growing winter cover crops between production of processing tomatoes and almonds in California’s Central Valley. A cost-benefit analysis will be used to shed light on possible explanations for their low adoption. This training will showcase an interdisciplinary approach to valuing soil management practices to gauge their role in changing agricultural contexts. This training is relevant for both producers and policy makers as they strive to meet the challenge of maintaining and potentially increasing agricultural production under California’s changing environment.
