Attention Farmers Market managers, vendors and those interested in starting a market in Montana. There will be a farmers market resource and networking meeting in Missoula on Saturday, January 20th from 9AM to 4PM.
It will be held at the new Food Bank location: 1720 Wyoming Street. This is a great opportunity to network with farmers market managers and board members in the region and to learn from their successes, challenges, record keeping techniques and food access programs. There will be plenty of round table discussion opportunities as well.
Steph Hystad from the Montana Dept. of Agriculture will be joining us to present about the new state-wide farmers market resource and communication portal that will soon be going live. Nina Heinzinger, the Public Health Sanitarian with the Food & Consumer Safety section of DPHHS will also be there to talk about the cottage food law and best labeling practices for small food businesses at markets. Kaleena Miller will be talking about highlights from the recently updated farmers market start-up manual.
These networking meetings are a project of the National Center for Appropriate Technology with funding from a USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program grant. Partners in the project are the Community Food & Agriculture Coalition (CFAC), MT Dept. of Ag, and AERO. For those of you that have attended a prior resource meeting, please feel free to forward this opportunity to other market supporters who might have missed out last time. Tammy Howard from NCAT and Kim Gilchrist and Shay Farmer from CFAC will be talking about developing a food access plan.
To RSVP or if you have any questions, contact Tammy Howard at 406-494-8683 or tammyh at ncat.org
