Farm-Based Food Safety
Training at Kalispell Greenhouse

Fresh-produce farmers will be able to see and experience practical solutions to developing their food safety plans this summer at a farm-based food safety training workshop on Tuesday, August 22 , in Kalispell. The workshop will be held at Mountain View Growers at 163 Hummingbird Drive in Kalispell from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This workshop is the last in a series of farm-based food-safety trainings designed for fresh-produce growers who want to enter into wholesale markets that may require a food safety plan; are curious about the food safety modernization act; or will require a GAP audit.

Registration is required: click here or go to www.ncat.org/events

Mountain View Growers is a state of the art hydroponic facility located just outside Kalispell, Montana. They grow and distribute produce across Montana and have experience working with large scale corporate buyers who more recently requested a GAP audit. Although their system may differ from other vegetable operations, many aspects of their food safety plan such as their traceability program, water management, and their employee training can still provide valuable lessons to any grower.

The farmers at Mountain View and David Wise will do a mock internal food safety audit and class participants learn what is involved in that process. The growers will share their experiences developing their food-safety plan and will also demonstrate some of their farm based food safety practices.

The workshop is free and lunch will be provided.
