Today, the National Farm to School Network <http://www.farmtoschool.org/> is
excited to share a new report, *State Farm to School Legislative Survey:
2002-2013 <http://www.farmtoschool.org/downloads/state-policy.pdf>*, which
documents all farm to school-related legislation proposed or enacted by
states since 2002. The report provides a summary of each bill as well as
charts categorizing bills by type. The report makes evident themes and
differences in state approaches to developing and implementing farm to
school programming and can serve as a resource for those looking to draft
new legislation.

*A few key take-aways from the survey:*

   - A total of 38 states and the District of Columbia now have legislation
   that supports farm to school.
   - To date, 45 states and the District of Columbia have proposed or
enacted legislation in support of farm to school.
   - Twenty states passed farm to school-related legislation in 2012 and
2013, and 17 other states introduced legislation, demonstrating significant
   growth in the movement.
   - What kind of legislation is being passed? In 2013, Alaska, Montana,
   and Oregon provided appropriations or grants for farm to school programs;
Mississippi established a farm to school advisory board; and Nevada
encouraged its schools to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable
Program. Other states commended local efforts, established studies
regarding the state of agriculture education, and directed purchasers
statewide to develop protocols for buying local food.

Please share this report widely and feel free to post a link to the report
on your own website: http://www.farmtoschool.org/downloads/state-policy.pdf.
